Frank Lloyd Wright, TALIESIN TRACT NUMBER ONE: MAN. Inscribed by Frank Lloyd Wright inside the red box on the first page, “Finally / To Emily / Hoping for another” and signed simply as F, dated 1954. Each panel measures 5.75 x 7.5 inches, and the entire piece is 37.5 inches wide all together. Very Good condition, minor soil to the front, small dampstain affecting parts of the inscription. This little booklet was printed in 1953 by Wright to give as a Christmas gift to friends. Despite Wright’s hopeful inscription and numbering this as Tract One, no additional issues were ever printed. Wright philosophizes on architecture, democracy, Individualists, art and nature, and concludes that In the depth of a man’s Faith would lie his true humility, that of the IDEAL MAN. His prayer would be humble only to ever-changing never-ending LIFE. No wonder Ayn Rand loved him! A rare piece of Frank Lloyd Wright and Taliesin ephemera, inscribed by the master architect. Page N2 titled Heating and footings. Original drawing by the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright, including handwritten notes on constructive details. Made in pencil, colored pencils and ink. Frank Lloyd Wrigh (1867 – 1959) was an American architect, one of the leading masters of twentieth-century architecture. Precursor of organic architecture, initiator of the Prairie School movement, developing the Usonian concept of housing. Considered one of the most important architects in history, with an extensive list of works that he created mainly in the first half of the twentieth century, being the author of buildings as the well-known Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Waterfall House (Fallingwater) or the Tokyo Imperial Hotel. In 2017, the MOMA in New York held the exhibition Frank Lloyd Wright, Unpacking the Archive, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of his birth, where numerous drawings similar to this one were shown. This drawing corresponds to the design of the Rayward house, also known as Tirranna, built in New Canaan, Connecticut in 1955 for Joyce and John Rayward. In this house you can appreciate the essence of the concept of Wright’s organic architecture in which all the technical detail of the architectural and engineering work merges with the art of creating new forms that integrate with the surrounding nature. This drawing is titled “Sections”. It is signed and dated. Provenance: Heritage Auctions (October 2018, lot #79103). This is a truly rare and unique item. It is a nice, original printing entitled Concerning the Imperial Hotel Tokyo Japan by Louis H Sullivan. A tribute on Sullivan’s part to the work of Wright on the Imperial Hotel. The writing is signed in pen by Louis Sullivan January 15, 1923 Chicago. This item was part of the estate of Frederick Gookin who knew both men. Measures 8 1/2″ x 11″ and contains 15 printed pages. There is some surface discoloration to the paper covers front and back. Front cover has small tear upper edge and tiny chipping around edges. The back cover is barely attached by a tiny bit of tape. Interior pages are clean and slightly yellowed with age. There is a tiny corner crease upper right on all pages. A great addition to any collection!
