Louis Sullivan Auditorium Theatre Frank Lloyd Wright Home Studio Plaster Panel

Louis Sullivan Auditorium Theatre Frank Lloyd Wright Home Studio Plaster Panel. This is a casting of panels produced circa 1970s for the restoration of Frank Lloyd Wright’s home and studio in Oak Park, Illinois. The design was initially used in the second floor hotel lobby of the Auditorium Building circa 1888-89, where Wright worked as a draftsman for Sullivan. A handful of additional casts were produced beyond what was need for the restoration and distributed to supporters and member of the restoration project. A couple of hand typed cards from the FLW Home and Studio accompany the plaque and give their version of the origin of the design. Similar examples can be seen in the collections of the City Museum of St. Louis, Missouri and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Wire on back for wall hanging. Measures 29.5in x 29.5in. 1945 Theatre Catalog Movie Theater Classic Frank LLoyd Wright Guggenheim Museum

1945 Theatre Catalog Movie Theater Classic Frank LLoyd Wright Guggenheim Museum

The 1945 Theatre Catalog. Hardbound Exhibitor Theatre Catalog (583 Pages, 10″ X 12.5″). This is one of the most unique books you will ever encounter detailing the golden age of movie theatres, those built in the 1940s. In other words, this is a book full of period advertising (both copy and drawings/photographs/designs), all dealing in the design and construction of the greatest theaters of the day. These are extremely rare editions and the fold out map showing proposed designs of projection rooms is shown below and is still attached to the book. It also features a lengthy article written by Frank Lloyd Wright about the Guggenheim Museum built on 5th Avenue in Manhattan in 1959. Wright was commissioned to design the museum beginning in 1943 however it took 16 years for the building to be completed. It’s a remarkable record of Mr. Wright’s thoughts on the design he would ultimately build. Following those 4 pages are 39 separate designs of theaters from around the country, followed by another 10-15 pages of related designs. This is an incredible record of movie history. Please ask us any questions you have. Every facet of theatre management, ownership, or design is extensively covered in this book. There are literally hundreds of photographs of existing theatres (almost all of which no longer exist) and ads for everything from seating, bookkeeping systems, marquee letters, projectors, carpet, curtains and more. This copy is unrestored and in very nice hardbound condition with brilliant color/printing, solid hinges and a great binding. There is the slightest hint of discoloration to the covers and ever so slight foxing to a small portion of the pages and endpapers. I would conservatively grade this copy as NF. All pages are present and the paper inserts which were originally included with some of the advertisements are also present, which is evidence that this book was handled with respectful care. Please refer to the 20 photos shown below and feel free to ask any questions you have regarding this book or the other set we have from later years. This is Volume 6 and it is the perfect book for any actor, theater owner or movie aficionado. It is a truly beautiful example of the golden age of movies. Please ask us any questions you have regarding this book or the others from the same series. We are an independently owned and run bookstore located in Portland, OR which has been in operation for almost 30 years. We also deal in rare/vintage magazines and ephemera. We are happy to answer any questions you have about our listings and attempt to provide as much information and as many photos of the items listed as possible. Thanks for looking and we hope to do business with you in the future. We use the traditional grading system for books and magazines. The grades are Fine, Near Fine (NF) + or -, Very Good (VG) + or -, Good (G) + or -, Fair and Poor. I can’t think of anything that we will be listing here which will be worse than Very Good or Good. For magazines, the grades will be Near Mint+(which will be our best grade as we don’t use Mint for used or collectible magazines because any circulated magazine will have some damage, no matter how imperceptible) or -, Excellent+ or -, Very Good+ or -, Good or Poor. Fine or Near Mint+: Little to no wear, with at most one or two minor flaws. Near Fine or Excellent: Light wear, described in the listing, may contain a small marking in the book by a former owner. Possibly a bumped corner or a mark. Magazine will show a little wear, probably appears to have been read. Very Good (both categories): A little more wear, maybe some creasing or soiling on a magazine; definitely read. Book showing some light marks on the covers, maybe a bumped corner or two. Both should be clean inside unless noted. Good: Significant wear, with some soiling and probably some light rips or tears. Books are significantly worn, soiled and sunned.
