The House Beautiful in a Setting Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright Frank Lloyd Wright’s Mother’s Copy!! Author: Frank Lloyd Wright William C. Gannett Title: The House Beautiful in a Setting Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright Frank Lloyd Wright’s Mother’s Copy!! Publication: River Forest, Illinois: Auvergne Press, 1896. Description: Frank Lloyd Wright. A deeply-personal Association copy of the 1896 1st edition of Frank Lloyd Wright’s 1st published book, #37 OF ONLY 90 COPIES PRINTED. THIS COPY BELONGED TO FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT’S MOTHER, ANNA LLOYD WRIGHT, WHO SIGNED HER NAME ON THE FIRST BLANK ENDPAPER AND ALSO INCLUDED A PRINTED, LAID-IN CARD. Small folio, original half-polished calf with gilt-line borders and green paper-covered sides; top-edge gilt. SIGNED BY BOTH FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT AND W. WINSLOW (one of Wright’s most important early clients) at the limitation. “Printed by hand at the Auvergne Press in River Forest by William Herman Winslow and Frank Lloyd Wright during the winter months of the year eighteen hundred ninety six and seven”. Though Wright did not write the text, this really has to be considered his first book as the page decorations were entirely designed by him; in addition, the volume incorporates a booklet sewn to the front endpaper which contains a series of twelve hand-printed collotypes of dried weeds from photographs made by Wright. Wright himself considered this his first book and said so in a letter to the Boston bookseller Samuel R. Morrill, “The Turn of a Century”, #141. It is a famous book, both in the history of Frank Lloyd Wright and as an outstanding American press book. This copy descended in the family of Maginel Wright Barney, Frank Lloyd Wright’s youngest sister. Edges of covers are somewhat worn; corners have been restored. Rebacked in matching polished calf. Very light old water stain in lower gutter splaying out to lower blank margins of both rectos and versos; hardly noticeable. Preserved in a handsome, dark-green, custom-made clamshell box. We offer an eclectic selection, specializing in childrens, art, photography, literature, history, chess, sports and more. We are members of the Antiquarian Booksellers’ Association of America (ABAA) and we stand behind what we offer for sale. We leave feedback for buyers once they have posted feedback for us. We work hard to keep buyers happy and to resolve the rare problem promptly. This listing was created by Bibliopolis.

Original Frank Lloyd Wright Designed William E. Fricke House Art Glass Window

1901-02 oversized leaded art glass window or possibly door pane designed by american architect frank lloyd wright for the extant william e. Fricke residence located in oak park, il. The strongly geometric “light screen” is comprised of closely arranged lead cames with clear glass, interspersed by subtle blue opalescent squares throughout. The long and narrow segmented rectangles along the top, consist of hammered texture blue opalescent glass topped with pink cathedral glass squares. The exact fabricator is not known, but could be attributed to temple art glass or possible the linden glass company. The large window was purportedly removed from the passage way leading to the the non-extant pavilion that was demolished in the 1920′s. The three-story william g. Fricke house was originally designed and built in 1901-02 on the corner of fair oaks avenue and iowa street in oak park, il. The lot stood vacant until 1948 when a nondescript house was erected. Frank lloyd wright designed the house in 1901 during a brief partnership with webster itomlinson. Wright designed the garage for martin 1907. Fricke commissioned wright to build the home shortly after he became a managing partner at the weber-costello-fricke co. Specializing in school supplies. The stucco-clad house is one of the first completely mature prairie style designs by frank lloyd wright. Around this time wright had dropped nearly all of his classical and “sullivanesque” elements from his designs and/or commissions. The house is considered to be the most successful of wright’s three story prairie homes. To this day, it remains a private residence. The window measures 50 x 27 3/4 inches. Note: measurements include oak frame. This item is in the category “Antiques\Architectural & Garden\Stained Glass Windows”. The seller is “urbanremainschicago” and is located in this country: US.
