Frank Lloyd Wright Signed Typed Letter. Date: December 13, 1928. Location: Taliesin, Spring Green, Wisconsin. Length: Two typed pages. Signature: Bold original ink signature by Frank Lloyd Wright. Offered here is an exceptional original two-page typed letter signed by Frank Lloyd Wright, dated December 13, 1928, written from his famed home and studio, Taliesin, in Spring Green, Wisconsin. The letter is addressed to noted architect and planner Albert W. Kelsey, founder and first president of the Architectural League of America and an important figure in early twentieth-century American architecture. Rather than routine correspondence, this is a substantial philosophical discussion in which Wright reflects on American architecture, his admiration for his mentor Louis Sullivan, and his long-standing opposition to architectural competitions. Wright famously writes that he has “never entered a competition” and describes them as producing merely an “average of averages, ” arguing that truly original architecture cannot emerge from such contests. Throughout the letter Wright discusses the future of American architecture, expresses concern that the ideals he and Sullivan championed were becoming merely “a French fashion, ” and invites Kelsey to visit him at Taliesin. Letters discussing Wright’s architectural philosophy are among the most desirable pieces of Frank Lloyd Wright correspondence, particularly those referencing Louis Sullivan, Taliesin, and Wright’s professional principles. Original two-page typed letter. Signed in blue ink by Frank Lloyd Wright. Typical mailing folds from original correspondence. Minor editorial pencil/ink corrections as shown. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form part of the description. An outstanding opportunity to acquire an original signed Frank Lloyd Wright letter containing significant commentary on architecture, Louis Sullivan, Taliesin, and Wright’s philosophy during one of the most important periods of his career.

Original Frank Lloyd Wright Western Union Telegram. Concerning Genius and the Mobocracy. An original Western Union telegram sent by legendary American architect Frank Lloyd Wright to his publisher, Duell, Sloan & Pearce, during production of his landmark book Genius and the Mobocracy. The telegram reads in part. NOW AWARE OF SERIOUS ERROR. PLEASE LOCATE AND CORRECT THE PROOF. Wright specifically corrects a factual error relating to Louis Sullivan, the architect he always regarded as his greatest mentor. The correction concerns an individual identified in the manuscript as the mayor of Kentucky, illustrating Wright’s meticulous involvement in the publication process. This telegram was sent on May 25, 1949, only weeks before the publication of Genius and the Mobocracy, Wright’s long-awaited tribute to Sullivan. The book fulfilled a promise Wright made decades earlier after Sullivan entrusted him with many of his original architectural drawings. Original Western Union telegram. Dated May 25, 1949. Sent by Frank Lloyd Wright. Addressed to Duell, Sloan & Pearce, New York. Relates directly to publication of Genius and the Mobocracy. Features Wright’s typed signature and period pencil notation. Very good vintage condition. Please review all photographs carefully for complete condition. Unlike personal correspondence, this is a working publishing document that captures Frank Lloyd Wright actively editing what became one of his most important literary works. Pieces directly tied to the publication of Genius and the Mobocracy are seldom encountered, making this an excellent addition for collectors of Frank Lloyd Wright, Louis Sullivan, architectural history, and twentieth-century American manuscripts.
