Great addition to your collection or a special gift! Drawings for a Living Architecture by Frank Lloyd Wright. Published by Horizon Press, New York. And the Edgar J. Kaufmann Charitable Foundation, Pittsburgh, Pa. Library of Congress # 59-10989. Manufactured in the USA. Printed by Hermer Lithography on Stonebridge Text paper. Title page by Paul Mayen. Previously owned with terracotta colored hardcover with Frank Lloyd Wright’s name on front. Gilt text on spine. No handwritten notes in text that I can find. Partial name plate on inside cover. Pages have normal wear (bumped, a few corner creases, marks, etc). Cover is in good condition with a few minor marks, fading, areas of wear, etc. No musty or smoke odors. Binding in all in-tact. Please see pictures for condition. Original dust jacket will be included but it is in very poor condition with numerous tears, missing areas, tape, etc. The book measures approximately 13 3/4″ x 11 3/4 x 1 1/4″. First edition [Problems of Contemporary Art 6]. Printed wrappers with French fold to rear. 57 black and white illustrations. Elaborate graphic design throughout. Impossibly well-preserved: a fine copy. Rare in this condition. 11 x 9 softcover book with 63 pages devoted to 19 projects from Wrights studiosmostly housesbut including a theatre for Hartford, CT, garage for Pttsburgh, second San Francisco Bay bridge. Artwork selected by Wright with commentary by Edgar Kaufmann Jr. Wright oversaw the selection, and of the nineteen structures detailed within, only eight had seen similar publication exposure previously. This small book is the first one in over forty years to present the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright as it issues from his office, in the form of drawings. Today the drawings turned out at Taliesin and Taliesin West (his homes in Wisconsin and Arizona), are entirely predetermined by him and often are touched and retouched by his own hand. “In our country the chief obstacle to any real solution of the moderate-cost house-problem is the fact that our people do not really know how to live, imagining their idiosyncrasies to be their “tastes, their prejudices to be their predilections and their ignorance to be virtue where any beauty of living is concerned. – Frank Lloyd Wright. (19101989) studied painting and typography in Europe before serving as an apprentice architect at Frank Lloyd Wrights Taliesin Foundation from 1933 to 1934. The Kaufmanns of Pittsburgh commissioned two of the iconic American residences of the 20th-century, Wrights Fallingwater in 1936 and then Richard Neutras Palm Springs Desert House in 1946. Joined the Museum of Modern Art in 1946 as director of the Industrial Design Department, a position he held until 1955. While at MoMA, he initiated the Good Design program (19501955) and was a strong proponent of uniform industrial design education standards. Here we have this rare collection of selected drawings from Frank Lloyd Wright. Vol 2 and 3. They are matching number 53 in each set. The pages look almost untouched and still have plastic wrapping. #A401 of 700 copies. Plates 51 – 100. 21.5 x 16.25. Clamshell box within original cardboard case. FLW: My interest in architecture stretches from the chicken coop to the cathedral. None of the former but a few of the latter are to be found here, in the color plates mounted on heavy cream stock. An Introduction by his widow, O. Wright, is all the text this work requires. Medium blue clamshell with sunset red lettering shows some light scrapping, with plate list at back spotted where tape on glassine rested and cardboard carton case has usually smudges and wear; o/w the interior is as clean as the architect’s lines. The present copy is number A053 The cover has a slight rip. Limited edition of 500 copies (A001-A500). The present copy is number A053. Plates 101 – 150. 21.5 x 16.25 50 mounted color plates on heavy card stock, all wrapped in original glassine wrapper and laid into its original printed folder, and set into a heavy terracotta cloth covered clamshell with paper label and ivory latches. This is the last volume produced in Tokyo of the three volume set. The first was published in 1977, the second in 1980. Each contains 50 color prints. A superb copy in pristine condition. 1925 Frank Lloyd Wright Wendingen Holland portfolio RARE early drawings & photos

Frank Lloyd Wright monograph consisting of seven special numbers of the art magazine Wendingen, Holland, 1925. All seven issues are bound together in a binding designed by Wright. Some have Dutch text, others English. Beautiful typography, layout and design. The leather label on the spine has Wright-designed lettering. Large 12-7/8 by 13-1/4 inches, weight 6 pounds, The individual pages are printed on one side only, then folded to form a single page. Condition: complete, no stains, writing, cut outs, odors or other problems. Not fragile, good quality paper, no water damage. The spine is detached. The binding is solid and tight and the boards are well-attached with no looseness. The canvas cover has stains as shown. About 6 pages have small less than one inch margin tears due to turning the pages. Note that there are many reprints from the 1960s of this book, but this is the original 1925 edition.
