VINTAGE FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT IMPERIAL HOTEL TOKYO PRACTICAL STUDY. Tokodo Shoten, 1972 / 420p / 340×265mm /. This is a research book on the former Imperial Hotel designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The book is composed of three parts, including abundant detailed photographs, drawings, various data, and discussions. The first part contains 235 interior and exterior photographs by photographer Osamu Murai. The second part includes various drawings based on actual measurements and detailed drawings of decorative terra cotta, door frames, and furniture. The third part is an empirical paper that includes the historical environment of the old Imperial Hotel, including the history of the building and negotiations with the architect, an interpretation of Wright’s “organic theory, ” research, and speculative clarification of the plan obtained through actual measurements, as well as discussions of form and decoration, materials and structure. The architectural drawings in this book are of great value as they are the only surviving drawings of the Imperial Hotel, which has already been lost. At the end of the book are photographs of the demolition of the Imperial Hotel, as well as information obtained during the demolition process.
