Illustrated by Maginel Wright Barney. Barney, Maginel Wright (Illustrator) (illustrator). Published by The Bodley Head and the Algonquin Publishing Co. Stated at back board: Alogonquin’Sunny Book’ No. Matches PF Volland edition in illustrations, design, and size. Compact 6″ x 7 1/2″ design. Bright wrap-around pictorial boards, minor shelf wear, front cover has small area rubbed. Pages near fine, bright; clean and without writing. Bind fine; hinges intact. Front and back endpapers with red, orange, and green birds and foliage over black starry night background. Rare attractive very good original. In the best tradition of children’s story books is this example with richly colored, darkly quaint and intriguing, painterly images printed in five colors from process plates on a fine grade of English book paper, while the cover, in eight colors, is done by lithograph. Written by the sister of Meredith Willson (actor) and illustrated by the sister of Frank Lloyd Wright (architect), author Tom Wolfe has called it one of the books which made him resolve to become a writer (even before he himself became a reader). So moved by its narrative about a baby kidnapped from a bassinet by a black bear and its “rollicking and rolling rhythm, ” Wolfe has slipped a phrase or two from Honey Bear into every book he’s ever written. Size: 12mo – over 6¾” – 7¾” tall. Absolutely stunning collectible children’s book from the 1920′s. Beautiful in every way. This vintage book from 1923 features the beloved character of the Honey Bear and is a must-have for any collector of children’s literature. Written by Dixie Willson and beautifully illustrated by Maginel Wright Barney, this hardcover edition is in excellent shape and ready to be enjoyed by a new generation of readers. The story follows the Honey Bear on his adventures through the forest and teaches valuable lessons about friendship and perseverance. The illustrations are vibrant and capture the imagination of both children and adults alike. This book is a true gem and a wonderful addition to any collection of decorative collectibles.

A very special memoir written by a young couple who befriended architect Wright during the Great Depression, challenging him to design “a five-thousand-dollar house”. He designed the famous Usonia #1, and the Solar Hemisphere over the years, and the book includes photos and anecdotes about the process. Their friendship lasted 25 years, until Wright’s death.
