This is an authentic archival print from the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation Archives. FLW drew this in 1934 with colored pencil on tracing paper. This is the famous drawing for the Kaufmann House, “Fallingwater, ” Mill Run, Pennsylvania. I’ve owned this framed historic print since 1992. The print has always been well protected in its original frame, glass and matte. It has never been in direct sunlight. The colors are far more vivid than the photographs convey. Will be packed up professionally at a frame shop. See my other items as well.

Unlike an architect, F. Wright is known for designing not only the buildings but also the furniture used in them. This book is a gorgeous photo collection featuring the Kaufman House, commonly known as “Fallingwater, ” which is said to be Wright’s greatest architectural masterpiece. The mansion, built directly above a waterfall, has a wonderful design and concept, and was also featured in the comic Gallery Fake. Fallingwater was completed in 1936, and this book was published in 1986, the 50th anniversary of its construction. As befitting a book published in a milestone year, this large-format hardcover book encapsulates the charm of Fallingwater and Wright. There are many books about F. Wright’s architectural designs, but there are probably few photo collections that focus on a single building like this one. The author of this book is Edgar Kaufman Jr. The son of the client who commissioned the mansion, and also a member of Wright’s architectural firm. In other words, he is the person closest to both the client and the designer. He is probably the only person who can talk about this building from both perspectives, so there is no one more qualified to publish a book on Fallingwater. Almost every page contains photos, including Wright’s design drawings, the construction process, the exterior that changes with the seasons, and the interior with its distinctive furniture design, so even those who are not good at Western books will be able to enjoy it.
