The stand made by Replogle is based off of a Frank Lloyd Wright drawing of an unidentified concept for a Prairie Home he worked on in the early 1900′s. The only words identifying the drawing said “Something like this ” scrawled in Wright’s handwriting on the paper. The 16 inch globe is held 39 inches high by the remarkable base. Made of walnut-finish hardwood the pedestal style stand supports a square horizontal cradle that holds the globe. THIS WAS PART OF THE WRIGHT EXPO IN SAN DIEGO. Frank Lloyds Wrights Legacy In San Diego: The Taliesin Apprentices. In the decades following World War II, those who studied under architect Frank Lloyd Wright in Spring Green, Wisconsin and Scottsdale, Arizona through his Taliesin apprentice program designed and built a fabulous array of structures in La Jolla and San Diego. Several of them, including Vincent Bonini, Frederick Liebhardt, Loch Crane, Sim Bruce Richards and Bill Slatton, established their professional practices in San Diego. In addition to these focal studies, the work of Frank Lloyd Wright and his two sons Lloyd and John was presented. Frank Lloyd Wrights Legacy in San Diego: the Taliesin Apprentices framed this remarkably rich portfolio of work with architectural drawings, photographs, and ephemera to demonstrate the power of Wrights influence. The exhibition displayed, for the first time in San Diego, Frank Lloyd Wrights unbuilt designs for the region. Curated by Keith York. Major funding for this exhibition provided by Ray and Ellen Merewether with additional support from Nick and Lamya Agelidis, Elizabeth Courtier Willis Allen Real Estate, Ike Kligerman Barkley Architects P. Floor Model, Walnut-Finish Stand, Die-Cast Meridian. 16 Inch, Raised-Relief, Antique-Ocean Ball. 22″W X 22″D X 39H; Product Weight: 26 lbs. The globe stand for this superb floor model is an authentic reproduction from a drawing found in the Frank Lloyd Wright archives. It is an unidentified concept for one of the Prairie Homes that Mr. Wright designed in the early 1900′s. The only marking on the drawing is in his handwriting and says, Something like this. The proportions and interpretations of the drawing were calculated based on the scale of other drawings from this time period. The striking, pedestal base, comprised of beautiful, walnut-finish hardwood and brass accents, supports the gimbaled-mounted, 360 degree, brass-plated meridian. The calibrated, die-cast meridian encircles the richly-detailed, 16 diameter, raised-relief sphere which features antique cartouches, compass roses and early explorers navigating parchment-colored seas. With the magnificent, 39 tall Wright Globe, Replogle has clearly demonstrated what a splendid product the masters of globe making can produce when inspired by the master of architectural design.
