On April 15, 2019, the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation presented Andy Cruz of the prolific design studio, House Industries. At Taliesin West (the renowned Frank Lloyd Wright school and museum), Andy Cruz shared how architecture has inspired countless House Industries projects ranging from children’s building blocks to digital fonts that help the world communicate. At this event, Andy Cruz explored the roll letterforms play in our modern visual landscape and the power they have to tap into a viewer’s emotions. Cruz addressed the process of crafting typefaces, furniture and objects with the estates of Charles and Ray Eames, Alexander Girard, and Richard Neutra. A House book signing followed the lecture. Andy Cruz biography : Born the son of a hot rodder, Andy spent his early years skating the mean streets of Elsmere, Delaware, and hassling the French Paper samples department for Charles Anderson posters. After graduating from Delcastle Vocational and Technical High School with “shop” certification in Commercial Art, he opted to skip art school and started working as a full-time designer at a local firm. Apart from his obvious artistic talents, Andy had a knack for subtle persuasion that he would later use to talk Rich into quitting a cushy, well-paying marketing job to start Brand Design Co. As the art director and creative nerve center of House Industries, Andy uses his calm, quiet demeanor to cajole frustrated House artists/designers into making something perfect by redoing it one more time. If he’s not collecting furniture, toys or other junk that will somehow turn into a House Industries product, he’s spending time with his ladies: wife Stephanie and daughters, Ava and Mia. Is a type foundry and design studio based in Yorklyn, Delaware. The company was created in the 1990s in Wilmington, Delaware by co-founders Andy Cruz and Rich Roat. The company is best known for its typeface creations, which have appeared on television e. Cartoon Network, Nelvana, The Walt Disney Company, TV Land, VH1′s Best Week Ever, in film e.
