Presentation fan woodblock of the Owari Tsushima Tenno Festival. Some dirt and grime. Pencil annotations on reverse. I’ve found one other impression of this print in the collections of the Tsushima City Library, where it is featured in a book they published on woodblocks representing the Owari Tsushima Tenno Festival, which features extraordinary boats on the Tenno river. There it is identified as a print from the late Edo period, c 1860, but the artist is not identified. Attached to backing sheet of laid paper with two tape tabs in upper corners. Provenance: from the estate of the artist Philip Pearlstein; previously in the collection of Frank Lloyd Wright (as noted on mat window). Sheet: 13 x 15 inches.

I bought both of these prints in the folder at the Salvation Army in Chicago on Clybourne and Fullerton 9 years ago. These were donated from Leslie Hindman Auctioneers in Chicago. They would donate anything they felt was not worth auctioning because they are a high auctioneer. I bought a lot of nice paintings from there. There was another Japanese print marked from the Wright estate that a girl bought so there were a few of them. I only know what you can see from the photos. Other provenance I have no idea where these have been or their history. I learned through a Google search Frank Lloyd Wright was a big collector of a Japanese prints. The photos tell the rest of the story. No guarantees on authenticity but this is a very interesting find. Any information you know that I dont please let me know. The Hiroshige looks very old and it was sitting on the cardboard that the corner was glued to long enough for the image from the back to lightly leave shadows on the cardboard. The other print is probably 1800s and looks very old. Ive told you all I know.
