Group of 40 original photos of a Bursztynowicz sculpted pebble placed in scenes with famous artists and Davis’s Pittsburgh friends. Glen; Henry Bursztynowicz Title: Group of 40 original photos of a Bursztynowicz sculpted pebble placed in scenes with famous artists and Davis’s Pittsburgh friends Publication: Pittsburgh: W. Description: 40 original photos, captioned by Davis with the names of the subject on the versos. Most measure 5.5 x 3.5 inches, seven measure 7 x 5 inches, all very good. With draft of a letter to Henry Bursztynowicz and Bursztynowicz’s reply. There are also 3 pages of handwritten notes by Davis identifying pictures on 3 rolls of film, plus a couple other related notes and cards. Davis has placed the pebble strategically on top of already-taken pictures of famous artists as well as Davis’s Pittsburgh circle of artists and friends and made a series of funny and charming photos that pre-figures later photographers’ similar Zelig-like projects. The results are enclosed. Besides those Davis mentioned, the pebble is pictured with Vuillard, Adlai Stevenson, Josephine Baker, J. Morgan, Picasso, Balcomb Greene, Pittsburghers Helen & George Hunt, Augustus John, Pittsburghers Mary Shaw, Marion Graper and George Koren, Hans Hoffmann, Rodin, Sam Hood, Pittsburgher Elvira Peake, Max Ernst, Russell Twiggs, Chirico, Calder, Braque, Pittsburgher Arthur Bergholtz, Audrey Hepburn, Pittsburghers Chad and Peg Jensen, Jackson Pollock, Louise Pershing (called “Persh”), and others. Davis was a modernist from Pittsburgh. He was an original member of the modern art Outlines Gallery in downtown Pittsburgh, which was started by Betty Rockwell in 1941. In addition, he was a member of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, and a founding member of the Art and Crafts Center, Society of Sculptors, and the Abstract Group. Davis’s work was also exhibited at the first post-war survey of Abstract and Surrealist American art held at the Art Institute of Chicago in the winter of 1947-8. He made paintings, photographs, sculptures and mobiles. Expedited options are available at checkout. Our warehouse is staffed Monday-Friday and we respond to inquiries as quickly as possible. We hope you enjoy browsing our selection of great books. This listing was created by Bibliopolis.

Robie House Exhibition Original Program Book. And other Documents from the 1960′s. VERY RARE AND IN MINT CONDITION. The University of Chicago pieces are in very good condition. Back in the mid 1960′s, I attended the University of Illinois in Chicago. I had the privilege of studying under Professor Hermann Pundt. His passion for Frank Lloyd Wright and Prairie School Architecture led to his work in restoring the Robie House. As a student of his, I had the opportunity to work on the actual restoration. When the restoration was completed, the Robie house was officially opened to the public. Before that opening, I had the chance to tour the the Robie house where I was able to obtain the Exhibition Book and other information. It is these Documents that are being Offered at this time. These documents were stored in a dry place in a smoke free home. Own a Piece of History! Please see my feedback! & be sure to add me to your. Thanks for stopping by Bud’s Place.
