Here is an Original Schumacher Exclusive Hand Print of The Taliesin Line by Frank Lloyd Wright Linen Fabric Panel, Design 103. This is a rare chance to acquire an original Schumacher hand-printed linen panel featuring the iconic “Design 103″, which was one of the line of designs created by Frank Lloyd Wright. This came about as a result of Elizabeth Gordon, then the Editor of’House Beautiful’, who introduced Wright to Schumacher. Research online describes the collaboration as being originally developed as part of the Taliesin Ensemble, which was a collection of furnishings for people who did not have the privilege of living in one of his homes. It was called Schumachers Taliesin Line of Decorative Fabrics and Wallpaper and included an array of textiles and wallpaper whose designs were hand-drawn by Wright. This large panel measures approx. 50.5″ wide x 106.75″ long in size, made of 100% linen and shows few signs of use. This panel is in remarkably good condition, and shows the finely hand-stitched 3/16 hem at each end of the length. (see photos) I think we can assume the original length of fabric was 108 long (3 yards) before it was hemmed and finished for use. There is a very tiny hole in a green field of color, (shown in the listing photo) however, it is barely 1/8 in size and still has a bit of the print colored thread still attached, so it’s possible it was a minor manufacturing flaw. It’s hardly noticeable, unless you look very closely for it. There appears to be a very subtle fold line fade and a few of the inconsistencies of stitch which is inherent in linen; but that’s to be expected with this type of material or any linen based fabric, for that matter. This panel is in very good used condition. I believe this panel is from their original line of textiles from 1955, or in that era. Schumacher, in collaboration with the Wright Foundation, revived a collection of geometric-print textiles that the famous architect designed, but this color combination is not available for Design 103. There isn’t any remaining finishing starch that you would find on a newer made material, so it’s possible it’s been hand washed at some point. In a few of the beige fields, I can barely see a few traces of watermarks which may’ve been caused by uneven drying after washing, but again, it’s hardly noticeable unless you are very close and looking for it. Some people can’t see it, even after pointing it out to them. It may well rinse out after careful hand washing, if that’s even necessary, and I wouldn’t even bother. The fine selvedge shows a tiny green dot at certain intervals, likely used to mark the alignment of subsequent layers of print color, in manufacturing. The quality of this linen panel is obvious and speaks to Schumacher’s highly regarded craftsmanship and reputation in the industry. This is a rare opportunity to acquire one of these great FLW linen panels. Please, don’t miss your chance! Good Luck + Thanks!
