Amazing Frank Lloyd Wright Frozen Spheres tile by Motawi Tileworks, framed in an ebony stained oak frame. Great pre-owned condition with just a little bit of wear on the back edge of frame as seen in photos. In 1927, Frank Lloyd Wright designed a series of twelve seasonally themed monthly covers for Liberty magazine. Frozen Spheres is based on one of these covers. Motawi Tileworks is based in Ann Arbor, Michigan where they design and make all of their ceramic tiles by hand. They can be hung on the wall, displayed on a stand, or used as the focal point in your next tile project. Tile size: 7 13/16 square. Size with frame: 11 1/2 square. Tiles are 5/8 thick and have a notch at the back for hanging. The solid wood frames are built by Family Woodworks in Pennsylvania with premium 2-inch flat quartersawn white oak wood and finished using their 4 step signature process. Frames are stained, not painted.

Each cover design exemplifies Wright’s practice of using the tools of his trade-T-square, triangle, and compass-to create lively geometric designs. Nearly a century later, Motawi celebrates this study in geometry, asymmetry, and color with its 8×8 ceramic art tile inspired by Wright’s Jewelry Shop Window design. This lively composition-a stylized arrangement of necklaces and other adornments-evokes the sparkle of gemstones and pearls through bold linework and intricate detail. Each Motawi tile is made by hand in Ann Arbor, Michigan with time-honored methods which produce a nuanced range of color with depth and translucence on each design. These hand-crafted tiles may vary slightly in color and dimensions, up to 1/16. Actual Tile Size: Approximately 7 7/8″ x 7 7/8″.
