PRESENTATION at frontispiece FROM FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT to boyhood friend CLEAVER THAYER: “To one of the finest boys ever Cleaver Thayer from his grateful Frank Lloyd Wright”. Includes early photo of TALIESIN by Chicago photographer Raymond Trowbridge. The 9″x12″ original photo is tipped onto a hand made paper mat with the Trowbridge logo stamp in the bottom corner. LABELED AND SIGNED (presumably to Wright) by his stepdaughter SVETLANA WRIGHT in sepia ink: TALIESIN In remembrance of the first days we spent here together horseback riding, climbing and car driving. Svetlana Wright-Peters was and integral and much needed member and leader of the Taliesin Fellowship, founded in 1932. Her profile and the family’s early days at Taliesin can be found online under Svetlana Wright-Peters. Beige cloth boards are worn and slightly soiled at the edges. Red leather gilt lettered title labelis rubbed but bright and whole on the spine. The portion of the label overlapping the boards is chipped at the edges. The Life Work of the American Architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Introduction by Architect H. Mees Holland, Sandpoort, Holland. A stunningly beautiful book, consisting of seven issues of the art magazine Wendingen. Unfortunately, this copy has suffered water damage to the cover, causing some stains and warping. There is also a chip missing from the upper spine and the front cover is starting to separate at the top. Fortunately, there was no water seepage to the pages. Few library stamps and notations, but the pages are otherwise clean throughout. Not so pretty on the outside, but a solid reference copy. Printed in The Netherlands. Life Work of the American Architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Beige cloth with printed lines on borders, applied leather gilt lettered label on spine, the whole designed by Wright. French fold pages with grey borders and FLW design. Housed in a maroon buckram folio and slipcase with leather spine. Some soiling and wear to book cloth especially at corners and end papers. Contents quite good but with some small stains to a few page edges. Former owner’s in pencil on ffep Clara K. Nelson, the Rhode Island artist. Folio and slipcase very solid but with fading. Slipcase has faint white paint speckles and some light white paint on bottom – likely housed on a newly-painted shelf that hadn’t yet dried! Consists of seven special numbers of the art magazine Wendingen. Edited and typographically arranged by H. Includes articles by famous European architects and American writers such as Lewis Mumford, J. Oud, Robert Mallet-Stevens, Erich Mendelson, H. Sullivan and Frank Lloyd Wright himself. It includes illustrations of work done between 1902 and 1923. A small, handwritten gift card is laid in, signed by “Aunt Clara” to her niece/nephew. The artist, Clara K. Nelson was Professor of Drawing and Design at the Carnegie Institute of Technology, beginning in the autumn of 1921. Also includes two newspaper clippings regarding F. W’s architecture (undated) and two pages clipped from a magazine dated February 1964. An excellent reference copy of a rare book. Some lots will fit into flat rate envelopes and some will not. Items are not returnable unless they are not as described. I have an open, brick and mortar shop in Columbia, PA along the banks of the Susquehanna River.
