In 1927, Wright designed a series of 12 monthly covers for Liberty magazine based on seasonal themes. Unfortunately, the publishers judged them as too radical for the time. Each cover design exemplifies Wright’s practice of using the tools of his trade-T-square, triangle, and compass-to create lively geometric designs. Nearly a century later, Motawi celebrates this study in geometry, asymmetry, and color with its 8×8 ceramic art tile inspired by Wright’s Jewelry Shop Window design. This lively composition-a stylized arrangement of necklaces and other adornments-evokes the sparkle of gemstones and pearls through bold linework and intricate detail. Approximate Tile Size: 7 7/8″ x 7 7/8″.
