A Frank Lloyd Wright ENNIS BROWN HOUSE Design Tile (16 W x 16 L x 2 Thick) This design of this architectural tile, which is used throughout the Ennis Brown House, is based on ancient Mayan temples (see info below). Has a felt backing and a hook on back for easy display on a wall, etc. Please NOTE: I’ve been asked if this tile is original to the 1924 construction of the building, and the answer is that I don’t know. The fact that it was a gift directly from Mr. Brown, given 20 years ago, suggests that it may be something special. I know there are other sellers who offer newly made versions of this tile, which are made to order. This tile I’m offering here is definitely not one of those newly made tiles. A booklet regarding Frank Lloyd Wright’s ENNIS BROWN HOUSE, which features pictures and info regarding the structure and showing the same tile design. The booklet is hand-signed/inscribed by Augustus O. Brown, who was the last private owner of the estate , and whose namesake (ie: “Ennis-Brown”) is part of the building. It’s inscribed to Wayne Isham, who is a famous film/music video director (well-known in his own right, do a google search). This tile and booklet were given to Mr. Isham by Augustus Brown during the filming of Ricky Martin’s “Vuelve” music video, which occurred at the Ennis-Brown House in December, 1997. The Ennis Brown House is also well known as one of the filming locations for 1982s Blade Runner film, as well as many other film productions over the years, such as: House on Haunted Hill. 1959 , the 1975 film The Day of the Locust. The television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, etc. In 1980, he donated the property to a nonprofit trust he established to ensure that the house would be maintained. That group became the Ennis House Foundation. CONDITION: overall, excellent condition. There are some minor imperfections, almost all of which I believe occur naturally in the casting process of the granite when these were originally made. The tile has a minor chip, bottom right, which is practically unnoticeable, and which I only mention for complete accuracy. Because of it’s location (bottom right edge) it affects the tile very little, if at all (see pics). The tile has never been displayed, only stored for the past 20 years. And along with other buildings by Frank Lloyd Wright, the Ennis House is sometimes referred to as an example of the Mayan Revival architecture. Its prominent detail is the relief ornamentation on its textile blocks, inspired by the symmetrical reliefs of Puuc architecture. The Ennis House is a designated city, state, and national landmark.
