The Native American sculptural figures Nakoma and Nakomis were designed for the Nakoma Country Club, a building inspired by the ceremonial campgrounds of the Winnebago Tribe. Wright’s original commission was to be built in Wisconsin, but it was never realized until the clubhouse was recently constructed by Taliesin Architects. Nakoma gracefully stands carrying her bowl and child with another child at her side, symbolic of domestic virtue. The 3-foot tall Nakoma is taken from the design of Frank Lloyd Wrights for a 16-foot tall statue that was to grace the entrance to the Nakoma Country Club in Madison, Wisconsin. Representing a Native American woman carrying two bowls and two small children, it is a very detailed piece. The 36-inch piece weighs 240 lbs. Any Frank Lloyd Wright.
