This pair of vintage stools / tables are out of an estate sale of a gentleman that not only collected Frank Lloyd Wright but volunteered at one of his houses here in Los Angeles. I have tried to find an example of these stools but have had no luck thus far so I cannot guarantee that they are Wright originals. They appear to be mahogany and plywood. Very heavy at 30 1/2 pounds each. Removable cushion exposes a deep well which could be used as a coffee table. One of the stools on the underside appear to have been reinforced in the center. Other than that and some light scratches and dings here and there the pair are in very good condition. Upholstery good as well. A pair of Frank Llyod Wright designed chairs circa 1955 for Heritage Henrendon. From the Taliesin collection, they are made from a beautiful mahogany. H x 20.5 in. W x 22.5 in. In 1955, when Frank Lloyd Wright designed his first line of mass-produced furniture for the Heritage-Henredon, he was 86 years old. In the same year, he also designed a group of textiles and wallpapers for F. Under the brand name Taliesin Ensemble. The initial line offered 63 pieces. Although the furniture line was priced to be accessible to the average consumer on the American mass market, it was not a commercial success and was taken out of production after less than two years. Neither the prestigious name of Wright, nor the slogan furniture for the housewife, as it was promoted during the golden age of Mad Men, helped to turn the line into a success. Aesthetically, all pieces were loosely inspired by Wrights early furniture, though they were decorated with ornamental moldings. At the time, Taliesin didn’t seem to work with traditional styles, nor did it fit in with the “new modern, ” made of new space age materials, including of plastic and metal. The Taliesin Collection bridges styles, pulling together so many things that are today considered modern. It’s for exactly this reason that the Taliesin items from Heritage-Henredon are so appropriate and sought today. These pieces need to be reupholstered to their former glory.
