A rare wooden table lamp designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright, signed and labeled, Frank Lloyd Wright FDN 1994 / 00013 / S2310 / Yamagiwa. There is also a Lumiere hallmark at bottom, see pics. Made up of rectangular boxes and cherry plywood shields. The design was inspired by a tree with branches and leaves. The boxes are open at the top and bottom, allowing the light to reflect off thin flat panels that can be slotted on either above or below each one. These fixtures proved to be a lighting innovation, providing comfortable indirect lighting without the use of glass or shades. Dimensions are 8 x 8 x 30 tall. This lamp was made in a Frank Lloyd Wright mission style believed to resemble the iconic Darwin D Martin House in Buffalo, NY. Lamp is made of hard wood, brown metal, and multi-colored stained glass on each side. Top metal shade screws off. Legs have felt to prevent damaging any surface it is on. Turns on and off with the cord t hat also has a switch. Lamp is 16 tall, 8 wide in the main body and the shade is 12 wide. O ne side has a small gap where the glass meets the frame (pictured) and can easily be turn to not be seen. His work heralded a new thinking in architecture, using innovation in design and engineering made possible by newly developed technology and materials. His creative ability extended far beyond the border or architecture to graphic design, and decorative elements for the home. In 1933, when Frank Lloyd Wright converted the original gymnasium of his hillside Home School located in Spring Green, Wisconsin, into a theater, he designed lighting pendents composed of rectangular light boxes and plywood shields to be suspended from the tall ceiling. These fixtures proved to be a lighting innovation, providing comfortable indirect light without the use of glass or shades. In 1952 when the theater was rebuilt following a fire, Wright modified the design of the original fixtures for use in the dining room, attaching them to the oak beam overhead. He found their soft indirect light so pleasing that he had a standing floor lamp of the same design fabricated for use in his own home, Taliesin. Each lamp is 16″ x 16″ at the base and 80 in. The lamp has 10 shades with 11 reflectors all made from solid wood and. Has (10) 15 Watt incandescent bulbs pre-installed as well as an on/off foot switch for easy power management.
