FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT – ANTONIN RAYMOND – ARCHITECTURAL DETAILS. The first copy of this publication was in 1937. The original plates were destroyed during the bombing of Japan in the Second World War. Fortunately, a perfect copy was found and and was used to publish this issue in 1947. The original publication featured burlap boards for the cover with the 1947 publication using heavy stock for the covers with a burlap imprint. Other minor improvements were made but the later printing is generally true to the original in most details. Antonin Raymond and his wife were apprentices of Frank Lloyd Wright in Wisconsin and relocated to Japan to assist Frank Lloyd Wright in the completion of the drawings for the Imperial Hotel. The Raymonds remained in Japan and started an architectural practice incorporating Japanese details influenced to a large degree by their association with Mr. This copy is in fine condition with only minor wear showing on the corners of the covers as shown in the photos. Other than a name imprint of the current owner stamped on the frontispiece, there are no other marks or stains in the copy. The plastic spiral binding is tight and unbroken. Remaining in Japan, he and his partner, Ladislav Rado, built numerous structures, mostly for Americans. As described in the Foreword, this book presents architectural elements developed in Japan over a period of seventeen years. Detail drawings and photographs show work actually executed in various buildings. See our other Architecture. Condition Descriptions Defined: We grade our books and dust jackets using the traditional language of the antiquarian book trade. In brief: Fine is the highest grade and means essentially as new, without visible faults or defects; Near Fine means approaching fine, but with one or more very minor defects or faults, which will be noted; Very Good means the book shows some general (but not too offensive) signs of wear and use, which will be noted; Good means the book is complete and intact, but has more wear or some internal markings. Any ex-library book will be graded no higher than Good, even if it is otherwise a very nice copy. Again, all flaws will be noted. We rarely offer any books in Fair or Poor condition, but if we do, the reasons for the grade will be evident from the photo(s) and description. Please notify us in advance of any return. Dimensions of Lithograph or Chromist-made non-disclosed reproduction : 11 inches x 8.5 inches (27.9 cm x 21.6 cm). Framed Dimensions : 18.5 inches height x 15.5 inches width. Modeled on Japanese wood block prints. On bottom of (3) of them. AMERICAN MODEL – C3 – PATENTS APPLIED FOR. AMERICAN – SYSTEM – BUILT. HOUSES DESIGNED – BY. FRANK – LLOYD – WRIGHT. THE – RICHARDS COMPANY. On bottom of (1) of them. These are considered: “Non-Disclosed reproductions” as Frank Lloyd Wright never created a lithograph in his life. Most likely the originals were prepared by Antonin Raymond, Wright’s assistant on the contemporary Imperial Hotel project in Tokyo. Even if the “Originals were prepared” by the assistant Antonin Raymond, instead of Frank Lloyd Wright, would that make Antonin Raymond the true artist who created his own original drawings or a chromist who reproduces by their hands, fingers and fingerprints the drawings of Frank Lloyd Wright? Either way drawings of Frank Lloyd Wright or chromist-made reproductions by Antonin Raymond or some combination of the two reproduced would result in reproductions, not lithographs. In other words, Antonin Raymond was being trained to be a chromist for Frank Lloyd Wright. A chromist is someone who copies the work of another. Customers requesting plans and brochures from the Richards Company would have received prints like these illustrating the many house models from which they could have chosen. Credit : Above partial information taken from Gary Arseneau Blog Spot were he describes model D101. These would be great additions in: a Real Estate Office, Architecture’s Office, Land Developer’s Office, Engineer’s Office or drafting room.
