Frank Lloyd Wright – Ultra Rare 1st Book – #39 of just 65 copies – Eve of St. Winslow & Chauncey L. Per the limitation page on the book, this book was Printed on a hand press by William H. Williams, for pleasure and their friends, at the Auvergne Press, River Forrest, Illinois; and finished the XIX day of December 1896. This copy is number 39 of an edition of sixty five copies, printed on hand-made paper. The title page of this little book is from a design especially made for it by Frank L. My understanding is that FLW partnered with his two clients and that this was published by the 3 of them working together in the late winter evenings of 1896. It was the predecessor to the Auvergne Press’s printing of “The House Beautiful”, so this book really is the one that started it all and was even printed in a more limited edition than the original House Beautiful which had 90 copies printed vs 65 of Eve of St. It has been signed by Chauncey Williams, and inscribed by him to a Mrs. Francis H Bishop” with a short message noted “December 25th 96. I have not seen photos of any other remaining copy of this book that look better anywhere on the internet. It truly belongs in a museum to be put on display for the public.
