Rare rug custom made for the Arizona Biltmore, circa 1970s. Created by Taliesin Architects after Frank Lloyd Wright designs for the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, Japan. Construction still taking place after wrights death. This same pattern and a number of others were used in the Imperial hotel. The pattern was recreated in the 70′s for the Arizona Biltmore hotel designed by architect Albert Chase McArthur brother of Warren and son of Warren McArthur Sr. Frank Lloyd Wright built the Mcarthur house of 1892, 4852 South Kenwood Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. The Arizona Biltmore gets attributed to Frank Lloyd Wright countless times but was designed by architect Albert Chase McArthur 1927. In the 70s Designer Kay Baden remodeled the inside of the hotel and had these carpets made by Taliesin West architects. This example has been bound at the edges by Binding Pros the same company has done endless jobs & carpet work for Taliesin West. Colors consist of granny smith apple greens, blues maroons magenta and Wrights famous red hues. Please see our other listings for the accompanying runners and larger rugs. As far as I know, this rug was installed in the Arizona Biltmore Hotel as part of a renovation done by Taliesen Architects (Frank Lloyd Wright’s firm) in the early seventies. It was originally wall-to-wall carpeting that, when removed some years later, was professionally trimmed and bound around the edges to be used as an area rug. The binding matches perfectly, and is done so well, you would never know that it was done later. The design is called the Imperial Arrow, and was first used in the Imperial Hotel in Japan with a different color palette. Please ask any questions prior to purchasing or making an offer.
