This Steinway Art Case Grand Piano was built in 1905 in the United States by one of the most respected piano companies in the world. It’s official description identifies it as being a Steinway Art Grand, Model B. Ivoryized, dull finish, special lacquer hardware, with inlaid marquetry. Authentication also shows that the piano was originally built for a doctor who resided in Washington, D. In the early “teens”. Gifted to the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, it was placed in the living room of Mrs. Frank Lloyd Wright at Taliesin West, where she enjoyed playing it, and composing music at the piano. It was in 1971 that Glenn Brown, a Registered Craftsman in The Piano Technician’s Guild International and a Piano Rebuilder, met Mrs. Wright and the Art Grand, and began providing regular tunings for the piano until the year of Mrs. Wright’s passing in 1985. Several years after Mrs. Brown, so that with his experience, knowledge, equipment and skills, he might undertake this very fascinating project. All the materials used in this restoration are of the highest quality available. Hammers, strings, action, genuine ivory keys, case inlays, and the ivoryization of the case and bench have been secured with no expense spared. The extraordinarily beautiful case is ebony and hard-rock maple with a rosewood music rack, with a black aniline dye stain, and seventeen coats of clear lacquer finish. The sides of the case, music rack and bench are decorated with inlaid marquetry portraying Renaissance instruments. It took 6 Italian craftsmen two years to create these designs at the Steinway Company. Regulated to standards of perfection, it is a “dream” to play for pianists of any level of accomplishment and is suitable for solo concert performances as well as highly desirable as an instrument of accompaniment. This prestigious piano is truly inspiring! The piano was appraised in 2015 for over 4.9 million and with appreciation to 2019 would put it at over 6 million. There is much more documentation available upon request. Piano is currently in a private collection in Arizona and will stay until all funds are cleared. Thank you, Clay 720.333.5946.
