Original black cloth stamped in gilt and red. First edition (stated) of this scarce Wright title, illustrated with B&W photographs, and divided into three sections (Freedom, Work and Fellowship). This is a nice copy with a faint band of discoloration to upper and lower edges of both panels, faint smell of must to text block, but a nice clean copy otherwise, free of names, inscriptions or bookplates. In a G+ example of the original jacket, which is heavily spotted on both panels; spine faded, price clipped; small chip to top edge front panel, but a solid copy overall, and now in protective mylar. The book presents Frank Lloyd Wright’s intimate account of his personal and aesthetic relationship with another of America’s greatest Architects, Louis Sullivan, the father of architectural modernism. This is a Very Good copy with three bumped corners and pushing to the spine ends. The dust jacket is in Very Good minus condition with some chips and tears, some tiny holes, and fraying to the flap folds. The dust jacket for this book is notoriously fragile and the jacket gracing this copy (in removable mylar) is about as good as any we have seen. Because of its scarcity and fragility, we have left the dust jacket in the protective mylar while photographing it. Copies signed by Wright are quite uncommon to the market are and signed copies in surviving examples of the fragile dust jacket are QUITE UNCOMMON TO SCARCE INDEED.
