Life Work of the American Architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Beige cloth with printed lines on borders, applied leather gilt lettered label on spine, the whole designed by Wright. French fold pages with grey borders and FLW design. Housed in a maroon buckram folio and slipcase with leather spine. Some soiling and wear to book cloth especially at corners and end papers. Contents quite good but with some small stains to a few page edges. Former owner’s in pencil on ffep Clara K. Nelson, the Rhode Island artist. Folio and slipcase very solid but with fading. Slipcase has faint white paint speckles and some light white paint on bottom – likely housed on a newly-painted shelf that hadn’t yet dried! Consists of seven special numbers of the art magazine Wendingen. Edited and typographically arranged by H. Includes articles by famous European architects and American writers such as Lewis Mumford, J. Oud, Robert Mallet-Stevens, Erich Mendelson, H. Sullivan and Frank Lloyd Wright himself. It includes illustrations of work done between 1902 and 1923. A small, handwritten gift card is laid in, signed by “Aunt Clara” to her niece/nephew. The artist, Clara K. Nelson was Professor of Drawing and Design at the Carnegie Institute of Technology, beginning in the autumn of 1921. Also includes two newspaper clippings regarding F. W’s architecture (undated) and two pages clipped from a magazine dated February 1964. An excellent reference copy of a rare book. Some lots will fit into flat rate envelopes and some will not.
