H V von Holst (Hermann Valentine) is best remembered for stepping up to the plate for Frank Lloyd Wright when Wright went off to Europe in 1909. During This time, von Holst ran the offices with the assistance of other Prairie School architects most especially Marion Mahony, one of the first female architects in the world. This book contains not only the designs of VonHolst but also works by Mahony, Lawrence Buck and others. There is a page of Frank Lloyd Wright designs too. The book has 108 plates showcasing homes built in the era with floor plans and cost of building for most. Great book of examples of the Prairie School with little text except under the plans with a nominal description of most. Black and white photos of homes in and around the Chicago area. The boards are a little damaged (please see photos) and the binding a trifle loose. Good Condition: 4t(13 1/4 X 10) landscape: brown two-tone boards with discoloration and some damage its the edges with scuffing and edgewear: plain spine with soft head and tail from use: bookplate and pencil markings inside front and on first spare:very minor foxing, most especially on last spare in back: Modern American Homes by H V Von Holst: Chicago: American Technical Society: 1913.
