Modern Architecture, Being the Kahn Lectures for 1930. Princeton University Press, 1931, First Edition. Good condition, usual fading, chipping to spine, frontis detached. Decorated boards with Wrights own design. End papers also designed by Wright. The end papers show a series of quotations from Wright described as Modern Concepts concerning an organic architecture from the work of Frank Lloyd Wright. The Kahn Lectures were series of lectures that took place from 1929 to 1931 at the Department of Art and Archaeology of Princeton University, sponsored by the New York banker Otto Hermann Kahn. Wright was asked to give the 1930 Lectures and it has been suggested that he accepted because of the “prestige of the venue and the bully pulpit it would afford him”. Wright gave six lectures and organised an exhibition of his own recent work “illustrating the ideas and principles involved in the’course’”. The exhibition toured America and Europe in 1930 and 1931 and Wright himself gave further lectures at other universities and institutions over the following year.
