FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT’S FIFTY VIEWS OF JAPAN. THE 1905 PHOTO ALBUM. Edited by: Melanie Birk with the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio Foundation. Pomegranate Artbooks, San Francisco. Some minor scuffs and shelf wear. Other than that the book appears to be unread. This book is filled with rare images showing Frank Lloyd Wright the photographer as well as Wright the tourist, the architect, and the collector. This book was a gift to Peter Purins who was a master mason for many architects including Frank Lloyd Wright’s homes by Architect Gary Paul McCowan. Peter and Gary worked on many projects tegether including the rehabilitation of one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s iconic Ennis House located in Los Angeles, California after the 1994 Northridge earthquake. Included with the book is a personal note from 2010 from fellow collegue and friend Architect Gary Paul Mcowan. Gary McCowan was born and raised in OKC. After he graduated high school, he headed to Norman with no real idea of what he wanted his major to be. A chance encounter with architect and OU professor Norman Byrd set him on the path to studying architecture, where he met mentor and lifelong friend, Dean Bryant Vollendorf. He graduated in 1970 and went to work for Bill Howard and then Robert F. Reed before going out on his own. During his varied career, Gary has worked with Vollendorf, led the restoration of Ennis House and Millard House in Los Angeles, and worked for Paolo Soleri. He’s an incredible organic architect and a great friend to the Okie Mod Squad. This book is from an estate collection of one of the Master Masons Peter Purins. He worked closely and was friends with many including Frank Lloyd Wright Jr, John Lautner, and Alan Weitraub just to name a few. I have an extensive collection of autographed books, personal correspondences, work correspondences, and drawings. He worked on many Frank Lloyd Wright, Lloyd Wright, and other well known architects’ buildings both residential and commercial projects mostly in Southern California. Peter was the Master Mason who manufactured and installed the Textile Blocks to repair Frank Lloyd Wright’s iconic Ennis House in Los Angeles, California that was heavily damaged after the 1994 Northridge earthquake and heavy rains. Feel Free to message me about the extensive collection that I have. It’s going to take some time to get all of the items posted including the personalized collectibles.
