Policeman Bluejay by L. Frank Baum, writing under the name ” Laura Bancroft”. A charming children’s book w/beautiful illustrations. Published in 1907 by The Reilly & Britton Co. Hardcover, 6-3/4″ x 9-1/4″, 116 pages. Cream cover w/a picture of 2 children sleeping in a bird’s nest. The back cover has the same picture & design. Blue fabric spine w/navy blue lettering. Illustrated by Maginel Wright Enright. Enright was a well-known illustrator in the early 20th century & was a younger sister of Frank Lloyd Wright. The book has 8 full-page, full-color plates. The last plate (pg114) is missing. Frontspiece – Go, both of you & join the bird that warned you. Page 34 – The man stole the eggs from the nest. Page 48 – The trial of the shrike. Page 66 – Peep! Page 86 – Sailing on the Dry Water. Page 96 – In the Honey Palace. Page 108 – The Battle. Page 114 – It’s Almost Dark – MISSING. The are also many partial page black & white drawings. Condition – overall good. However, this looks like a well-loved book. Cover has a little wear & some small light spots on lower front corner. Inscription on front endspage. Original owner’s name written on “This Book Belongs To” page. One plate is loose (but present). A few small, light spots on a few pages.
