Hard to find lighter of the SC Johnson’s Wax Research Tower in Racine, Wisconsin. The lighter was designed by noted Industrial Designer, Brooks Stevens and was a limited edition (estimates of less than 2,000 produced) and was given away as executive and corporate gifts. Very good condition with no chips to the Cherokee red paint. Lighter does not work (probably just needs flint/fluid). Piece stands 5 3/4 tall. The tower, located in Racine, Wisconsin, was built between 1944 and 1950. This lighter belonged to an employee of the tower. The lighter is made of metal with red enamel stripes and a stepped circular base, resembling the tower’s design. The Johnson Wax Research Tower is notable for its unique cantilever construction and its role as a research facility for the SC Johnson company. Original Vintage Frank Lloyd Wright Johnson Wax Press Photograph. This photo was found in an envelope containing about 20 photographs of different views of the SC Johnson research facilities in Racine Wisconsin. They were printed in 1987 as promotional pieces for a calendar. The photos are very well shot and printed on glossy Kodak paper. The typed piece of paper in the last photo is NOT included in the sale. It was only included to add context. Photo measures 8×10 inches. Will look great framed up! Johnson Wax Research Tower Lighter. A number of these were commissioned in the 1940s by the president of S. Johnson & Son to commemorate the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed building in Racine. Great collector’s piece. This one recently came out of a box of things belonging to my great-grandfather. He worked for several decades in research and development at the Kimberley Clark headquarters in Wisconsin, and we think it was a gift from one of his counterparts over at S. See pictures for more details. I don’t know anything about lighters, so I have no idea if this one is still workable or not. Needs a polishing- has a very thin layer of grit built up on some of the surfaces from being in family storage so many years, but it seems like it would come off easily, just from lightly scraping at it with a fingernail.
