Frank Lloyd Wright Original Roof Section

Frank Lloyd Wright Original Roof Section

Frank Lloyd Wright Original Roof Section

An original copper roof tile from the Shorewood Hills, Wisconsin Unitarian Church designed by Frank Lloyd Wright (with the assistance of one of its members and the son of two of its founders) and built by Marshall Erdman in 1949-51. The original roof has since been replaced. The portion designed to be visible still shows the original green coloration — presumably applied to make the roof show a look similar to that which often develops on exposed copper over time. The church building is recognized as one of the most innovative examples of church architecture. In 1960, the American Institute of Architects designated it one of 17 buildings to be retained as an example of Wright’s contribution to American culture. The Meeting House was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, before the traditional 50-year cutoff for historic buildings. In 2004, it was designated a National Historic Landmark by the National Park Service. This roof section measures approximately 17 inches by 17 inches (excluding the portions of each side bent so that the roof tiles could be interlocked). And provides an opportunity to obtain an original piece of a highly notable building designed by one of America’s foremost Architects. The photographs included in this listing constitute a part of the item’s description. The item “Frank Lloyd Wright Original Roof Section” is in sale since Sunday, July 23, 2017.
