Frank Lloyd Wright Prairie House, architectural plans

The Prairie School, that truly American form of architecture, has its roots in the Midwestern plains, especially the state of Illinois. Frank Lloyd Wright popularized the style both through his built designs and also through his many publications. In the April 1907 edition of Ladies Home Journal he published a design for a fireproof house that became the inspiration to architects and builders all over the country. Wright himself built several variations on this seminal design. The Ziegler Residence is one of those, and an exquisite example. This two story house, built over a basement, has a compact, efficient, almost square plan. The first floor contains Living, Dining and Kitchen areas flowing freely one to the next. There is also a WC off the entry. The second floor contains 4 bedrooms, a sleeping porch and a bathroom. This upper level could be reconfigured to accommodate a second bathroom quite easily, making a Master Bedroom suite. The prints you are purchasing are crisp, high resolution black line copies on white bond paper. The original drawings were beautifully delineated in 1972. This extensive set of 14 drawing sheets includes a basement plan, 2 floor plans, a roof plan, 4 exterior elevations, several sections, and several exquisite sheets of classic Prairie style details in carved wood and leaded glass. The original drawings rest in the Library of Congress. As a work of art these prints are worth purchasing in their own right. For those of you interested in building a historically inspired house, these plans offer an excellent starting point. These plans are ideal for a flat site. This house would be comfortable in a suburban or country setting. Including porches, this house has outside dimensions of approximately 35×45. I have house plans in wide variety of styles including Colonial, Craftsman, and Prairie, as well as plans of architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Irving Gill, Purcell & Elmslie and others. If you are planning to build: These plans are not complete architectural drawings as might be required by your local permitting agency and do not contain all the structural, waterproofing and other details and information necessary for construction. But your local builder or architect should be able to adapt these drawings and add to them as necessary. What they do provide is accurate design information about a REAL Wright designed house, not a pseudo-Wright tract house as you will find in the house plan magazines on your supermarket shelf.
